THE GUEST HOUSE WINDOW

‚The space around – Was kann Raum und was macht er mit dir!‘ erforscht die Wiener Künstlerin Petra Gell.
Ihre Malereien sind geprägt von einer geometrisch abstrakten Formensprache, architektonischen Elementen und klarem Farbspektrum.
Die Installationen, bei denen oft industrielle Werkstoffe verwendet werden, entsprechen einem poetischem Arrangement und greifen Richtung Design.
Eine Ästhetik, die eine sensitive Leichtigkeit transportiert, bewegt, motiviert und Perspektiven öffnet.
Ausgangspunkt für die Installation am GUESTHOUSE WINDOW, war die Wahrnehmung und Erfahrbarkeit dieses spezifischen Ortes.
Das WINDOW fungiert als Bildträger und bietet als Zwischenraum ein direktes Spannungsverhältnis zwischen dem Innen- und Außenraum. Die Grenzen der Brasserie und der Terrasse werden ausgelotet und neu verhandelt.

Die in der Ausstellung Hide and Seek Show and Tell gezeigten Arbeiten spüren der Wechselwirkung von Raum und Bildraum, der Differenz zwischen realem, imaginiertem oder medial produziertem Bild nach. Sichtbarkeit und Entzug, Zeigen und Verbergen sind Strategien, die die Künstler_innen anwenden, um die Koordinaten zwischen realem Raum und Bildraum zu verschieben. Dabei spielt die Materialität von Wand, Boden, Stoff und Spiegel ebenso eine zentrale Rolle, wie die Materialität von Linien, Licht, Projektion und Animation.
The works shown in the exhibition Hide and Seek Show and Tell trace the reciprocity of space and pictorial space, the difference between real, imagined or media-produced image. Visibility and withdrawal, showing and hiding are strategies the artists use to shift the coordinates between real space and image space. The materiality of the wall, the floor, fabric and mirrors plays a central role, as does the materiality of lines, light, projection and animation.
